Types of Ghosts

Two Main Camps of Thought

The Spirit Group

  • Reactive Spirit
  • Non-reactive Spirit

Some believe that a ghost is truly the restless earth-bound spirit of a deceased human being.  I call this the "Spirit" group.  Within that group there are also subgroups such as the group that would believe that this spirit has a consciousness (whether or not he or she realizes they are dead) and can make decisions or react to the living. I would call that subgroup the "Reactive Spirit" subgroup.  The other subgroup would be (you guessed it), the  "Non-reactive Spirit" subgroup.  This subgroup believes that a ghost is also an earthbound spirit but may be unaware of the living subjects that it may or may not be affecting.

The Unexplained Phenomena Group

  • Internal Phenomena
  • External Phenomena

While I can't be sure how many people fit into the two main groups (I would guess that they are about even), I can say that the theories surrounding the two main subgroups of this group are numerous. Basically this group believes that ghost manifestations are simply naturally occurring phenomena that we just can't reasonably explain.  Within this group there are two main subgroups that I call the "Internal" and "External" subgroups.  The internal believe that a ghost is merely visible to certain persons because of a sensitivity that they possess to the "energy" or "forces" of the spirit or remnant.    The external believe that the physical remnants of a ghost or spirit can be seen by most everyone and this applies to when one or more persons witness the same phenomena at the same time.   I tend to think that the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
